Let not the pot call the kettle black

Last Saturday, we visited granny who lives in Penang Island. We woke up at 4.00 a.m and busied ourselves with preparations for the trip. The journey would take about six hours, thus we left early so that we arrived in time for granny's superbly delicious lunch.

I was only half awake, but my boisterous little brother who had just turned five was extremely excited about traveling at that hour. Furthermore, Dad had told him that if he was lucky, he would be able to see elephants along the highway.

As soon as Mum was ready, we left. The cool, fresh breeze of dawn was truly refreshing and I did not feel sleepy any more.

My brother was glued to the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of the elephants.

I was in a world of my own, thinking about the handicrafts that I would shop for in the Market in Penang. It was always so much fun going there. They had a variety of things in that market. I often had a tough time choosing because everything sold there was beautiful.

All of a sudden, my little brother let out a scream and moved away from the window, huddling closer to me. At first, we thought that he had finally managed to see the elephants, so we told him not to be afraid of them, but he did not speak. Instead, he started to shiver and tried to say something but the words would not come. Mum was really worried, and immediately reached out to get him to sit on her lap for a while.

Once safe in her arms, my brother narrated, between sobs and pauses, that an ugly face had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. It had big, ugly, red eyes and large ferocious teeth. After that, he was too scared to go on and began to cry.

Dad and Mum exchanged suspicious glances. Everyone was quiet for a while. I was beginning to feel the chills of fear. Immediately, I told my father to raise the windows and switch on the air conditioner.

From time to time, my brother whimpered like an injured animal and Mum said that he was becoming feverish. I closed my eyes tightly and forced myself to go to sleep. I did not want to see anything at all, be it monkeys, elephants or scary figures. Mum told us to sit away from the window but that did not help me in any way.

I started having goose bumps. I was quiet sure that my brother had seen a ghost and that was why my parents looked so alarmed. Everyone was silent during the rest of the journey except for the faint music from the radio.

After some time, Dad finally broke the silence when he started to sing along with the song played on the radio. To my surprise, Mum joined in as well, and soon the three of us were in a jovial mood.

All this noise woke up my little brother who had been fast asleep. As for me, I tried to put a brave front and started teasing my little brother for being chicken-hearted.
But Dad quickly interrupt, "Son, let not the pot call the kettle black. We saw how pale and scared you were just now. So don't tease your brother about it."

        I did not reply.

Itulah salah satu kisah yang terdapat di dalam buku yang saya baca. ok, sekarang kita semua boleh lihat ada perkataan yang jarang kita dengar dan gunakan. Betol x?
Ok...Lets me tell you about the words which has been highlighted with red colour.

boisterous: noisy and rough
dawn: early morning
glimpse: see partially
shiver: shake or tremble
ferocious: fierce
chills: feel afraid
whimpered: made small noises like when in pain or fear
jovial: cheerful

Maksud peribahasa "Let not the pot call the kettle black" adalah: a person who has a weakness or fault should not point out to another person who has the same weakness or fault.

banyak lagi peribahasa dalam B.I yang menyeronokkan. Jadi, kepada kwn2 semua, sekiranya terjumpa buku ni, jangan tengok aje, beli lah kalo ada duit...hehe...:)
